Noticed Kathleen Jamie won the competition for the inscription to be on the Rotunda monument at the Bannockburn site. A lot of good poets were invited to offer a verse, but their hearts didn't seem to be in this sort of celebration, it seemed to me. I liked KJ's effort.

Here lies our land: every airt
Beneath swift clouds, glad glints of sun,
Belonging to none but itself.

We are mere transients, who sing
Its westlin’ winds and fernie braes,
Northern lights and siller tides,

Small folk playing our part.
‘Come all ye’, the country says
You win me, who take me most to heart.
Kathleen Jamie, 2012
